Accordingly, the crew releases Odysseus after he begins to act calmly. Only then do they take the wax out of their ears.
After departing from the mermaid island area, Odysseus ends up on the island of Ogygia. It is inhabited by the nymph Calypso, who, in love with Odysseus, forces him to stay with her - it lasts 7 years. Hermes later comes to Calypso saying that the gods said she has to free Odysseus.
