TOPIC: Imagine a door suddenly appears in the hallway at school. Write a story
about where the doorway would lead.

Answers

Answer 1
Tendrils of smoke encircled the terrified girl, as she gingerly stepped towards the intimidating door.

It stood, in magnificent glory, its brass handle simply beckoning her to turn its handle and venture inside.
The eerie strangeness of it all was almost palpable, filling the girls stomach with dread.

As her fingertips grasped the handle, the door made a loud creak, sending her flying backwards and having to recompose herself.
She took a deep breath, and stepped inside, feeling the weight of the situation disappear as she was surrounded by light.

As she regained consciousness, she realised she was in a snowy forest, the white snowflakes gracefully dancing and landing on her pale face.
The creatures of the day had long since burrowed in their homes, the nocturnal creatures curled up in their own alcove.

Time stood still in that beautiful forest, it was as though the forest had taken a paintbrush and painted an image of its own.

The Beatles

When people hear the name "The Beatles" most people think of co-lead singer, John Lennon. However, the role of Paul McCartney is often overlooked.
John Lennon and Paul McCartney were in other bands together before the forming of the Beatles. In 1962, along with Ringo Starr and George Harrison, they formed the rock group known as "The Beatles." The group featured a modern rock that was new and popular during the period with John and Paul composing and doing the leads on most of the songs. They were backed by George on lead guitar and Ringo on drums. George and Ringo also assisted on backing vocals.
When they first began playing, the main influence inside the band was John Lennon, who had an ability to compose songs at a moment's notice with an inspiration that others missed. He pushed the members of the band during their touring years and was able to achieve the best possible results from the group. However, McCartney was also a strong force in the group since Lennon many times asked for McCartney's advice about ideas for songs. McCartney wrote many of the group's biggest hit songs, and often, he didn't even ask for song writing credit.
After the breakup, McCartney launched a successful solo career. He has released many recordings both in the United States and abroad. One accomplishment was his first classical piece, Liverpool Oratorio, which is no small feat considering that McCartney never learned to read music.

Briefly describe the development of the plot. What is happening in this scene?
Find an example of one of the following plot devices in the passage from the play: foreshadowing, dramatic irony, or subplot. Describe its use, and list the lines from the plot
Act I, Scene II
Capulet’s orchard.
(Enter Romeo)
ROMEO: He jests at scars that never felt a wound.
(Juliet appears above at a window.)
But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.
Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,
Who is already sick and pale with grief,
That thou her maid art far more fair than she:
Be not her maid, since she is envious;
Her vestal livery is but sick and green
And none but fools do wear it; cast it off.
It is my lady, O, it is my love!
O, that she knew she were!
She speaks yet she says nothing: what of that?
Her eye discourses; I will answer it.
I am too bold, 'tis not to me she speaks:
Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven,
Having some business, do entreat her eyes
To twinkle in their spheres till they return.
What if her eyes were there, they in her head?
The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars,
As daylight doth a lamp; her eyes in heaven
Would through the airy region stream so bright
That birds would sing and think it were not night.
See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand!
O, that I were a glove upon that hand,
That I might touch that cheek!
JULIET: Ay me!
ROMEO: She speaks:
O, speak again, bright angel! for thou art
As glorious to this night, being o'er my head
As is a winged messenger of heaven
Unto the white-upturned wondering eyes
Of mortals that fall back to gaze on him
When he bestrides the lazy-pacing clouds
And sails upon the bosom of the air.
JULIET: O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I'll no longer be a Capulet.
ROMEO: (Aside) Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?
JULIET: 'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.
ROMEO: I take thee at thy word:
Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized;
Henceforth I never will be Romeo
JULIET: What man art thou that thus bescreen'd in night
So stumblest on my counsel?
ROMEO: By a name
I know not how to tell thee who I am:
My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself,
Because it is an enemy to thee;
Had I it written, I would tear the word.
JULIET: My ears have not yet drunk a hundred words
Of that tongue's utterance, yet I know the sound:
Art thou not Romeo and a Montague?
ROMEO: Neither, fair saint, if either thee dislike.
JULIET: How camest thou hither, tell me, and wherefore?
The orchard walls are high and hard to climb,
And the place death, considering who thou art,
If any of my kinsmen find thee here.
ROMEO: With love's light wings did I o'er-perch these walls;
For stony limits cannot hold love out,
And what love can do that dares love attempt;
Therefore thy kinsmen are no let to me.
JULIET: If they do see thee, they will murder thee.
ROMEO: Alack, there lies more peril in thine eye
Than twenty of their swords: look thou but sweet,
And I am proof against their enmity.
JULIET: I would not for the world they saw thee here.
ROMEO: I have night's cloak to hide me from their sight;
And but thou love me, let them find me here:
My life were better ended by their hate,
Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love.
JULIET: By whose direction found'st thou out this place?
ROMEO: By love, who first did prompt me to inquire;
He lent me counsel and I lent him eyes.
I am no pilot; yet, wert thou as far
As that vast shore wash'd with the farthest sea,
I would adventure for such merchandise.

Answers

Answer:

Romeo stands in the shadows beneath Juliet's bedroom window. Juliet appears on the balcony and, thinking she's alone, reveals in a soliloquy her love for Romeo. She despairs over the feud between the two families and the problems the feud presents. Romeo listens, and when Juliet calls on him to "doff" his name, he steps from the darkness saying, "call me but love."

After the two exchange expressions of devotion, the Nurse calls Juliet from the balcony. Juliet leaves, but returns momentarily. They agree to marry. Juliet promises to send a messenger the next day so that Romeo can tell her what wedding arrangements he has made. The scene concludes as day breaks, and Romeo leaves to seek the advice of Friar Laurence.

PLS HELP ME!!! Read the following excerpt from Alfred Noyes’s narrative poem "The Highwayman." Which THREE literary elements do these stanzas contain?

The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees.

The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas.

The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,

And the highwayman came riding—

Riding—riding—

The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.

He’d a French cocked-hat on his forehead, a bunch of lace at his chin,

A coat of the claret velvet, and breeches of brown doe-skin.

They fitted with never a wrinkle. His boots were up to the thigh.

And he rode with a jewelled twinkle,

His pistol butts a-twinkle,

His rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jewelled sky.

Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark inn-yard.

He tapped with his whip on the shutters, but all was locked and barred.

He whistled a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there

But the landlord’s black-eyed daughter,

Bess, the landlord’s daughter,

Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair.
